Tc = L / Vf
Calculation scope

Travel L must include depth and the approach distances actually traversed at cutting feed.

Results

Total time in cut
30s
For the selected cycle count.
Time per hole or pass
30s
Travel time at feed rate Vf.
Total cutting distance
50mm
Travel multiplied by cycle count.
Time not included

Rapid moves, tool changes, acceleration, peck cycles, handling and machine stops are not included.

Tc = L / Vf

50 / 100 = 0.5 min

Total time

0.5 × 1 = 0.5 min

ⓘ Theoretical time engaged in material, calculated at constant feed.

Defining travel

Which length should I enter?

Enter the distance actually traveled at cutting feed. For drilling, include approach and drill-point breakthrough when relevant. For turning and milling, include toolpath entry and exit.

Proper use

Cutting time or cycle time?

The result is time in cut. An industrial cycle time must add rapid moves, tool changes, inspection, loading and other auxiliary time.
