02Validation example
Reference numerical case
- 1/2 + 1/3 = 5/6 ≈ 0.8333; (−2/3) × (9/4) = −3/2 = −1.5.
03Operate first, then reduce
Addition and subtraction use a common denominator. Multiplication multiplies numerators and denominators. Division multiplies by the reciprocal, then the result is reduced.
04Limits and conventions
This tool accepts integer numerators and denominators within JavaScript’s safe integer range. It does not parse mixed-number text such as 1 1/2.
05Common mistakes
Never use a zero denominator. When dividing fractions, invert the second fraction only.
06Practical questions
Does the calculator simplify fractions automatically?
Yes. The exact numerator and denominator are divided by their greatest common divisor before display.
Can I use negative fractions?
Yes. A negative sign may be entered in a numerator; the reduced result keeps a positive denominator.
